Honey is a priceless gift of nature. There are indications from cave paintings that honey was first used by humans over 8,000 years ago, and humans have been cultivating honey bee colonies of bees since around 2,400 BC.

Honey is a high viscosity sweet liquid produced by bees from the nectar of flowers. The color and flavor of a particular type of honey will vary based on the types of flower from which the nectar was harvested.

Honey is available and consumed in both raw and pasteurized forms. Raw honey is extracted from the hive and bottled directly, and contains trace amounts of yeast, wax, and pollen. Consuming local raw honey is believed to help with seasonal allergies, due to repeated exposure to the pollen in the area. Pasteurized honey is a type that has been processed to remove impurities.

Honey contains about 70 to 80 percent sugar, making it sweet. Honey also has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Modern medical science has found use for honey in chronic wound management and combating infection.
